Petroleum Engineering Schools
Petroleum engineers search the earth for reservoirs, containing natural gas or oil. Once these reservoirs are found, petroleum engineers then work with the specialists and other geologists to understand the properties of the rock and geologic formation, containing the resources, determine the methods of drilling to be used, and check production and drilling operations. They design processes and equipment to achieve the target of maximum recovery of gas and oil. They also use computer for effects and simulations of various drilling options. Petroleum engineers depend majorly on computer graphs and models to check reservoir performance by using different recovery methods and techniques. There are different petroleum engineering schools which are teaching this vast and popular subjects. The students of petroleum engineering schools have very wide knowledge of petroleum and its different products as well as how it is extracted from the earth.
In petroleum engineering schools students are taught various recovery methods. These methods include injecting chemicals, steam, water and various gases into the oil reservoirs in order to get more oil from earth, the drilling done for this purpose is auto controlled and operated by a computer. This method is applied because by using natural method of extracting oil, only a small amount of oil will flow out of the reservoirs. So above technique is applied in order to get more oil from single digging. But even then instead of using best techniques petroleum engineers are able to recover only a portion of oil and gas from the reservoirs.
The students of petroleum engineering schools are taught to develop new technology and methods through research and increase the recovery and minimize the cost of drilling operations. Producing oil and gas and other resources from the earth is the primary challenge of the petroleum engineer. Petroleum now provides us over 71% of the world’s total energy and is likely to do so for at least another 45, and probably hundred, year. In this sense, no other discipline of engineering is more concerned with our daily lives as petroleum engineering is. Environmental and economic safe production of petroleum and its resources requires creative applications of wide spectrum of information and knowledge, ranging from the basic knowledge of physics, mathematics, chemistry and geology, to almost all engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, chemical etc. Petroleum engineers are able to contribute and donate to such activities as, underground waste disposal and hydrology and pollutant removal. Since many petroleum companies carryout worldwide operations, the petroleum engineers have the opportunity to work with them
